The day we've all been waiting for! The highly anticipated Eragon movie has now (mostly) released world wide! If you aren't one of the brave fans who're seeing the movie at a midnight showing, make sure you get out to see it today or this weekend!
Fox gave Shur'tugal an opportunity to see the movie at the World Premiere in London, where we recently got back from. Here's our review summary:
Cuts were made, characters were left out, and some odd-jobs were hired for roles that, to the average book fan, will have you raising an eyebrow... but the major thing to keep in mind is the length of Eragon as a book, and having to turn such a long book into a movie. Though some major plot changes were made (ones that didn't need to be - such as the ending of the movie), most were excusable, understandable, and at times, necessary. Despite the plot changes, Eragon was still a captivating and impressive movie. Eragon and Brom were portrayed beautifully, and the emotion ran through this movie exactly the way it should have. The acting was up to par, and the CGI work was exceptionally stunning. I'd recommend seeing this movie to any book fan or non-book fan alike, and bring a tissue or two for that certain death scene!

All in all? Eragon gets a 4 out of 5 stars.
For how well the movie sticks to the book? 3 out of 5 stars.
Summary: Cuts were made, characters were left out, and some odd-jobs were hired for roles that, to the average book fan, will have you raising an eyebrow... But the major thing to keep in mind is the length of Eragon as a book, and having to turn such a long book into a movie. Though some major plot changes were made (ones that didn't need to be - such as the ending of the movie), most were excusable, understandable, and at times, necessary. Eragon and Brom were portrayed beautifully, and the emotion ran through this movie exactly the way it should have. The acting was up to par and the CGI work was exceptionally stunning. Eragon. "Based on a novel." The phrase alone is enough to scare any fan of a book undergoing the conversion. It's a well-known fact that most book-to-movie adaptations don't always go so well, and for a while, Eragon wasn't looking too "up" for the Eragon book fans.
Going in to the Odeon theater in Leicester Square, London, after the insane and excitingly chaotic red carpet events was extremely nerve-racking. I didn't know what to expect from the movie. Was it going to be good? Would the PG rating ruin the battles? Would Jeremy Irons make a good Brom? And most importantly - how much did they change?
The movie begins with a narration by Brom, who tells the story of the fall of the Riders and Galbatorix's rise to power. The story was very similar to that from the book, and even showed mid-air battles between dragons, taking place during the beginning of the war.
The movie's narration continues until it slowly fades out, while the movie moves between Eragon leaving his home to hunt in the Spine, and Arya fleeing Durza. Eventually, the story comes together when Arya releases the egg using her magic, and Eragon receives the egg, while missing his deer.
Characters are quickly introduced, starting with Sloan (who isn't actually named, he just has lines). We're also shown soldiers of the Empire in several scenes, who travel to Carvahall to collect unwilling recruits for the King's army as soon as the male villagers turn 18. Sloan's sons are taken during this time.
After trying to sell the egg to Sloan, Eragon brings it home, and, like the book, doesn't tell anyone about it.
The close relationship between Eragon and Roran is shown, though rather quickly. Roran picks on Eragon and his hunting skills, which soon turns into a sparring and fake fighting match inside of their house. Soon after, Roran packs up and leaves Carvahall, though not to raise money and work at a stable so that he can marry Katrina. In fact, Katrina is never introduced in the movie at all. Roran leaves so that he isn't recruited by the King's army.
Soon after, we see Saphira hatch for Eragon. If this scene doesn't make you "awww", I'm not too sure what will.
We watch Eragon and Saphira's relationship grow quickly, however, she still doesn't begin to speak before we're introduced to Brom. Oh boy, Brom.
Brom was amazing. Jeremy Irons was amazing - is amazing! I really couldn't think of a better actor for Brom. He begins to tell the tale of how Galbatorix came to power while sitting in Carvahall in front of Empire army members, and after being threatened, makes several witty jokes. The true Brom also shines through when he is again confronted by the soldiers, this time telling them he hopes they choke on the bones of his stolen chickens (and more).
The movie after this is pretty fast-paced. We all know how Saphira changes once Eragon helps her into the air in a big flash of fire. Instantly huge. Not too sure I liked that, but there aren't many better ways of doing it. Soon we find the Ra'zac in Carvahall torturing Sloan (that's new) for information about the egg. Eragon runs back to the farm, but before he gets there, is swooped up by Saphira, who flies him away and refuses to let him go. They land shortly after, find Garrow dead, Eragon tells Saphira he hates her and makes her leave, Brom shows up, lights Garrow's body and the farm on fire, puts Eragon on a horse, and they ride away.
Told you a lot happens at once.
