professional athletes.

In an interview with Gamespot, Riot Games' eSports Manager Nick Allen
revealed that the United States Government has officially recognized League
of Legends as a professional sport. The U.S. will now award visas to
international players competing in the LCS (League Championship Series).
While this is huge news for LoL, as Allen says in the interview, "this is
groundbreaking for eSports," as a whole. Allowing visas for professional
players simplifies the process of travel and makes international tournaments
far easier to conduct.

Allen reveals in the interview that the process of convincing the government
to issue these visas was long and arduous. Eventually, however, officials had
no further reason to say no and granted visa rights to all competitors in the
LCS.

For those less familiar with the intricacies of international travel
regulations, visas are granted by a country to allow visitors for a limited
amount of time. In the past, many LCS pros may have had to jump through a
number of legal hoops to secure a visa to travel to the United States. This
can include visiting a far-away embassy, applying for a visa and praying it
is granted. Now, getting a visa for LCS athletes will be a much more
streamlined process; players will no longer have to worry about whether or
not the U.S. will allow them to travel and stay here.

This will be very helpful, with the LCS World Championship on the horizon. So
